JSFA2012: JIS U12A falls at the final hurdle

The Cup and League competions are now coming down to the wire and some teams are  close to completing their 2012 season. One or two divisions are already decided and the trophies are beginning to be engraved with the names of some schools who will be winners for the first time. Last weekend saw matches in the last eight of the Greenfields Cup with The British International School having a good day in all age groups.

2 goals from BIS Red’s prolific striker John Broadfoot either side of the break was like a dagger in the heart for high flying JIS in the JSFA U12A Divsion Championship on Saturday. After a faultless season with 6 wins out of 6 JIS were set to crown their title bid infront of a large contingent of parents crowding the touchline form both schools when a below par performance brought their plans crashing down. The result leaves the division wide-open with BIS, JIS and Al Azhar now likely to finish level on 18 points and a three-way play-off in the offing.

It was another bad day for JIS when they went down 3-1 to SMPI Al Azhar in the U14 Greenfileds Cup quarter final. 2 goals from Rafly Mursalim and an opportunistic strike from Dios Suwardi was sufficient to end the season for JIS U14 this year with a cup exit. Also in the Greenfields Cup BIS U16’s went through to the semi-finals in a thrilling penalty shoot-out after Sean Cullen for BIS and Ery Fauzan for Victory Plus had cancelled each other out in normal time. Two misses by Victory Plus out of 5 attempts was not good enough and BIS kept their nerve to stay in the competition. In the U14B division JIS B downed rivals BIS Blue 6-0 to go top but with French International School one point behind with 2 games in-hand they are unlikely to remain there.

There was an outstanding display from Jin Woo Park of Sevilla School in their U14C encounter with Global Jaya International when he scored 5 out of his schools 6 goals in their 6-3 victory and first win of the season. Santa Laurensia still top the division on 15 points.

The legaue is now in its final phase as teams begin to complete their playing schedule and fight for places in the Gala Day finals scheduled for May 19th.
